Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation

Author: Date:2021-05-25

The purpose of the baccalaureate program of rehabilitation is to prepare professional rehabilitation therapists for a meaningful career in health care. This course will explore opportunities in occupational therapy and physical therapy.

The first year courses in this program include basic medical knowledge and introduction to concepts and theories related to rehabilitation practice. Clinical study is introduced in the second year with the focus on health promotion and identification of risk factors. Clinical rehabilitation skills are practiced first in the School's Skills Laboratory. In the third year, the students will learn how to help patients address emotional stress and/or mental disorders. This will be achieved through the use of art therapy, recreational activities to improve their physical and mental health, exercises to reduce physical pain, and other professional techniques to improve general health. Courses involving health, psychology, social work, and aging will enable the students to learn how to strengthen the ability of the patients to communicate and cooperate with others, and provide necessary treatment and rehabilitation to the patients. During the fourth (final) year, clinical experiences take place in hospitals. Student clinical experiences are planned to encourage consolidation of knowledge gained in preceding years and focus on individuals, and families. Students will also learn how to provide care to those experiencing more complex illnesses and problems. As such, the program provides a foundation for graduate education in rehabilitation and serves as a stimulus for continuing professional development.
